Review – Dominix

My babies, hurry and come back!

That is exactly what an inexperienced pilot will say when they fly the Domi. That was what I said anyways. Even though I had this ship a while ago, I held back writing a review for it because I was extremely inadequate to fly it. Now however, I will challenge anyone to a fair battleship versus battleship battle in it because it performs like a beauty.

Honestly, this is one good battleship, especially as being a tier one BS. Its tank can really take a beating and its offensive capabilities are beyond what I had expected. Though there are quite a few problems with it, the Dominix is a great ship for the beginner Gallente pilot!

One of my favorite aspects of the Domi is how huge its dronebay is. This means it has a wide variety of roles it can fit. Let me think; neut-nos, drone-boat, logistics support, turtle tank, heavy damage support, mission running… You get the idea. But this ship is not without any flaws. The high rack is only 6 modules big meaning it’s the smallest of all battleships (tied with the Scorpion). But this setback is compensated by the massive 7 slot low rack!

Quite a while before people mainly used the Dominix for a heavy neut-nos setup. They would nos the oblivion out of their opponent and the get the kill with 5 heavy drones chewing away. I would say a very good tactic as cap is life in EVE. But after the nosferatu nerf they considered this build to be obsolete. I still think this would be the optimal way to go 1 versus 1 PvP.

Another role this beast does wonderfully is taking on those level four missions. Tank, yup. Good damage output? Totally there. Salvage and loot ability? Another yes. Best of all, no ammunition needed. Absolutely none; no cap boosters or charges. Fit the mid slots with cap rechargers and it would be stable even with two large armor reps in the lows. Hella yes! Using some more active modules require a capacitor power relay (the ones that decrease shield boost amount since we aren’t shield tanking) to keep all of it running constantly. With this, I like to grab the whole room’s attention, set out my minions and go grab some eats.

Your arsenal is big and you have many choices, but pick accordingly! For mission running I really really suggest sentry drones as they stay by your side so that when the shit does hit the fan it’s easy to GTFO (get the frick out).

In PvP, your opponent has no idea what you are going to do. They may scan your ship down, but they can never know what is in your dronebay! Unleash 5 ECM drones or 5 sensor dampening drones and the victim can be held down for quite a while. Launch 5 heavy attack drones to swarm the opponent or string out 5 sentries to setup a nice gate camp!

Whatever you are willing to try, this ship is ready for. After flying her around, I believe this is the most versatile battleship anyone can get they hands on!

And it’s cheap :). My alt supports me sometimes with heavy rep drones in a domi ! Very handy.

@Morph
Yes, you are right about the cheap part. It does a very good job at remote boosting; shields, armor, or cap.

It is without a doubt, the best all round battleship in the game in my opinion. I know experienced PvPers with 30+ million skill points that swear by the Domi as their PvP ship of choice in Empire and low sec.

Aye on that one mate!
Tho I am not rich enough to take a BS down into low-sec, this ship would be my first choice.

Great review! I’m still loving my Imicus and 3 hobgoblins (total newb here), but I can’t wait to some day get into a Vexor and then later one of these puppies!

Haha, it’s all good! Actually I love newbs hehe =]
The Vexor has a great tank for a cruiser. Hope I am helping you along your path as a great player in EVE!
